Marut

In Genshin Impact, Marut is not a playable character but rather the name of one of the pet cats belonging to the fortune teller, Nabiya, in the Sumeru region. Their name is derived from the fallen angel Marut (and Harut) in Islamic lore. In the game, players need to remember the names of these cats during a story quest to deceive an NPC. According to the legend, Harut and Marut were two angels sent to Earth by God to test humanity, but fell from grace after succumbing to temptation and teaching magic to humans. This backstory adds a layer of cultural mystique to the characters within Genshin Impact. Although they appear as just cats in the game, their background has stirred much discussion and research among players.
