In Genshin Impact, Narzissenkreuz is not a single entity but a complex concept intertwined with multiple characters, organizations, and storylines. Initially, Narzissenkreuz refers to a secret research society led by Rene de Petrichor, who was dedicated to predicting and preventing the end of the world using his "World Formula." This formula predicted a cataclysmic flood, and in an attempt to save humanity, Rene sought to merge human consciousness with the primordial waters to escape the apocalypse and be reborn in a new world. In pursuing this goal, Rene gradually transformed into an entity known as Narzissenkreuz. Narzissenkreuz also refers to the 'Sword of Narzissenkreuz', a weapon used to defeat him in the game. This sword can switch between Ousia and Pneuma alignments to solve puzzles in the Fontaine region. Key characters in the story also include Rene's childhood friends from the Narzissenkreuz Institute: Jakob, Alain, and Mary-Ann, whose childhood experiences and later choices significantly influenced the formation and development of Narzissenkreuz. Additionally, the Narzissenkreuz Institute itself is an orphanage built upon ancient ruins, with the Oceanid Lyris as director, and serves as the starting point for many key events. Throughout the story, players will engage in a series of quests to uncover the truth behind Narzissenkreuz and ultimately stop his so-called salvation plan.
