Enjou
Enjou, also known as "The Thing Calling Itself 'Enjou,'" Sanka, and Kokuchuu, is a quest-exclusive NPC in Genshin Impact. He is first encountered in Enkanomiya in the World Quest Series "From Dusk to Dawn in Byakuyakoku," where he calls himself Enjou. He later appears in Natlan in "Scions of the Canopy's Tribal Chronicles" and "Yupanqui's Turnfire" under the alias Sanka, and then again in the "Vision of Ashen Desolation" event as Kokuchuu. Initially presented as the Traveler's translator and clerk during the Enkanomiya trial, he reveals himself to be a Pyro-aligned Abyss Lector. In Natlan, he is searching for the Mare Jivari. Enjou describes himself as a "lowly clerk" within the Abyss Order, focused on uncovering ancient lore. While not part of the inner circle, he is aware of their activities. He is portrayed as an enigmatic and eccentric individual who has a tendency to flee from unfavorable situations. Enjou aids the Traveler in Enkanomiya before revealing his true identity and engaging in combat. Despite his actions, he admits to liking the Traveler and spares them. He later returns to Enkanomiya, restoring the Towers of the Void with Abyssal technology, causing darkness to encroach, and then travels to Natlan in search of the "Turnfire," interacting with the locals under different aliases. He ultimately confronts the Traveler again, revealing his motives and interest in Mare Jivari.
