Banner of the Stars II

Banner of the Stars II is the second anime adaptation of the Japanese science fiction novel series Banner of the Stars. The story is set against the backdrop of the war between the Abh Empire and the United Mankind, focusing on Lafiel's appointment as the Territorial Ambassador of the newly conquered planet Lobnas II. Upon arriving on the planet with Jinto, they discover that it was formerly used as a prison planet by the United Mankind, housing a million prisoners on the only inhabited island. The prisoners are separated into three sectors: women in the west, men in the east, and a mixed central area with the condition that all inhabitants are sterilized. The women in the western sector wish to leave the planet out of fear of the men, and when they begin their migration, the male prisoners in the east rebel, capturing Jinto in an attempt to stop the women. Simultaneously, an enemy fleet approaches the system, forcing Lafiel to abandon Jinto. Banner of the Stars II continues the world-building established in Crest of the Stars, delving into the complex relationships between war, politics, and different races. It portrays how the characters face challenges amidst power struggles and cultural conflicts, and demonstrates their efforts to seek survival and hope in adversity. The anime has received acclaim for its detailed visuals, captivating plot, and deep consideration of social issues, making it an indispensable part of the Banner of the Stars series.
