Rizelmine is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yukiru Sugisaki, which was later adapted into an anime television series. The manga was originally serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's magazine, Ace Next, from November 2001 to April 2002, with a total of 6 chapters. It was compiled into a single tankōbon volume released on March 22, 2002. The anime adaptation, produced by Imagin and Madhouse, aired on Kids Station in 2002, split into two seasons with 12 episodes each. The story revolves around Tomonori Iwaki, a 15-year-old boy who has a preference for older women, who is forced by the government to marry Rizel, a 12-year-old girl. Rizel is the first human creation from the government's genetic engineering experiments, and her tears contain nitroglycerin, making them explosive. The plot focuses on the chaotic married life of Tomonori and Rizel, along with comedic and romantic elements, and explores the complicated feelings of other characters such as Ryunosuke Hououin who is in love with Rizel, and Kyoko Yachigusa who likes Tomonori. Though some feel its plot and settings are similar to Urusei Yatsura, Rizelmine possesses its own unique charm and style. Despite containing some suggestive jokes and lolicon elements, it is loved by some audience for its animation quality and sense of humor.
