R.O.D - Read or Die is a Japanese manga series created by Hideyuki Kurata, which has been adapted into an anime OVA and a TV series. The story revolves around Yomiko Readman, a librarian and secret agent with the ability to manipulate paper, code-named "The Paper". As an agent of the British Library's Special Operations Division, she is tasked with protecting rare books. The OVA series, consisting of three episodes, depicts her working with colleagues Nancy Makuhari (aka "Miss Deep") and Drake Anderson to thwart a mysterious group called the "I-Jin", composed of clones of historical figures, who are trying to use Beethoven's unfinished symphony to destroy the world. The story continues in the TV anime, R.O.D the TV, where Yomiko has gone missing and her friend and student, Nenene Sumiregawa, teams up with three paper-manipulating sisters to find her and stop the conflict between the British Library and a rival organization. The franchise is known for its unique character designs, thrilling action sequences, and clever use of literature.
