Figure 17 Tsubasa & Hikaru is an original anime series created by GENCO and OLM, directed by Naohito Takahashi. The series is notable for its 46-minute episodes, longer than the standard 30-minute anime. The story revolves around the shy Shiina Tsubasa, who moves to Hokkaido because of her father's dream. Through an accident, Tsubasa merges with an alien lifeform named Hikaru, becoming "Figure 17", and fights against monsters called "Maguar" that threaten Earth. The plot blends school life, coming-of-age themes, and sci-fi battles, emphasizing Tsubasa's personal growth and her bond with Hikaru. The anime also has manga and light novel adaptations. It was broadcast on AT-X, with music by Toshihiko Takamizawa, whose band The Alfee performed the opening theme "Boy" and ending theme "Fairy Dance". The anime has been distributed on DVD and in manga format not only in Japan, but also overseas.
