Haibane Renmei

Haibane Renmei (灰羽連盟), also known as Charcoal Feather Federation, is a Japanese anime series created by Yoshitoshi ABe. Originally a dōjinshi manga, it was adapted into a 13-episode anime television series. The story is set in Glie, a walled town where the main character, Rakka, and other angel-like beings called Haibane reside. The Haibane are born from cocoons, possess wings and halos, and have no memory of their past lives. They work within the town and are bound by rules, such as not owning new things, not using money, and not approaching the walls. The narrative revolves around Rakka's daily life as she gradually learns about the Haibane world, their fates, and the mysteries surrounding the town. As the story progresses, Rakka realizes she might be 'sin-bound,' and their ultimate destiny is the 'Day of Flight,' leaving this world. The anime explores philosophical and religious themes like redemption, sin, and reincarnation, and is noted for its unique atmosphere, beautiful visuals, and music.
