"Ghost Stories" (Japanese: 学校の怪談, Gakkō no Kaidan), also known as "School Ghost Stories," is a Japanese anime series produced by Pierrot in 2000 and broadcast on Fuji Television. Adapted from Tōru Tsunemitsu's children's novel series of the same name, the story follows Satsuki Miyanoshita and her younger brother Keiichirou as they move to their mother's hometown and discover their new school is haunted. They embark on an adventure to battle the ghosts with the help of their mother's "ghost diary," with one of the sealed ghosts, Amanojaku, trapped in their pet cat, Kaya. The anime is best known for its North American English dub by ADV Films, which significantly deviates from the original script by employing numerous pop culture references, inappropriate jokes, and fourth-wall-breaking humor, turning it into a unique, satirical comedy. Despite this, the original Japanese version of the anime is also appreciated for its unique plot and horror elements. Beyond the anime, "Gakkou no Kaidan" has also been adapted into multiple films, TV series, and games, gaining widespread attention and discussion across various media.
