Maison Ikkoku: The Final Chapter (めぞん一刻 完結篇), is an animated theatrical film set during the time frame of the final episode of the anime series. It was released in Japan on February 6, 1988, as a double feature with Urusei Yatsura: The Final Chapter. The plot unfolds two days before Yusaku and Kyoko's wedding, where the tenants of Maison Ikkoku stir up trouble once again during their pre-celebration party. Yusaku learns that Kyoko is anticipating a mysterious letter, and she is late in arriving at Maison Ikkoku. This movie tells the story of what happened with Godai, Kyoko, and the other tenants after the TV series ended, and the last episode of the TV series should not be considered since it was a summary of what would come next. During the night, many characters show up, including Ibuki Yagami, who is there to celebrate her own birthday, only to learn the big news. How will everyone handle Yagami’s attitude regarding the wedding? What is the meaning of Kyoko’s letter? This movie serves as the finale for the Maison Ikkoku series, showing the eventual happiness of Godai and Kyoko and resolving the fates of other characters.
