SPACE PIRATE CAPTAIN HERLOCK OUTSIDE LEGEND ~The Endless Odyssey~

Space Pirate Captain Herlock: The Endless Odyssey is a 13-episode original video animation (OVA) series that serves as a sequel/remake to the 1978 television anime Space Pirate Captain Harlock. The story takes place after the war with the Mazon, where the original crew of the Arcadia went their separate ways. Kei Yuki begins captaining her own pirate crew, but is captured by the Space Sheriff Security in order to lure out Captain Harlock. Meanwhile, scientist Dr. Daiba and his son Tadashi are on a junk planet away from Earth for research. Dr. Daiba is killed, with his son Tadashi believing the killers to be aliens called the Gnu. Tadashi is rescued by Captain Harlock when he is about to be killed by a wild beast. Inspired by Harlock, Tadashi joins his crew. Harlock and his crew reunite to fight an ancient force called "Noo," an evil being seeking to enslave all living things by controlling dead scientists, sparking an intergalactic war. Harlock is the only one immune to Noo's power. Eventually, he succeeds in banishing Noo back to another dimension and restoring Earth to its original position. At the end of the story, Harlock tells Tadashi that he had promised his father that he would kill him if he betrayed living beings. Since Dr. Daiba became too curious about Noo's power and almost betrayed life, Harlock fulfills his promise by killing Tadashi's father. Harlock offers Tadashi the chance to avenge his father's death.
