The Daichis - Earth`s Defense Family

"The Daichis: Earth's Defense Family," also known as "The Family's Defensive Alliance," is a Japanese anime series created and written by Shoji Kawamori, and directed by Tetsu Kimura. The series premiered on WOWOW in Japan from January 9, 2001, to March 29, 2001, spanning 13 episodes. The story centers on the Daichi family, a typical Japanese family on the verge of collapse. The mother, Seiko, is dissatisfied and money-obsessed, and has served her husband, Mamoru, with divorce papers. Their daughter, Nozomi, is burdened with housework and feels used, while the youngest son, Dai, witnesses the family falling apart. However, the Galaxy Federation recruits the Daichis to combat alien threats to Earth. They must overcome their internal conflicts and learn to work together to save the planet, and possibly their own family. The anime blends action, comedy, and science fiction, depicting the growth and transformation of a dysfunctional family in the face of crisis. It was also aired worldwide by Animax and released on DVD in North America as "The Daichis: Earth Defence Family."
