Sherlock Hound, also known as Meitantei Hōmuzu (名探偵ホームズ), is an animated television series co-produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha (Japan) and RAI (Italy), adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. This unique series portrays almost all characters as anthropomorphic dogs. The 26-episode series, which aired from 1984 to 1985, is notable for its blend of 19th-century settings with steampunk elements and Jules Verne-esque technology. Set in Victorian London, the series follows the adventures of Sherlock Hound and his assistant, Watson, as they foil the schemes of Professor Moriarty. The first six episodes were directed by Hayao Miyazaki, but production was halted due to copyright issues before being resumed by a different director. Despite being based on the original Sherlock Holmes stories, the series features mostly original plots with a lighthearted tone suitable for children. The show is further enhanced by steampunk technology and adventures, offering both excitement and humor.
