Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (機動戦士ガンダムΖΖ, Kidō Senshi Gandamu Daburu Zēta), is a Japanese anime television series produced by Sunrise. It is the third installment in the Gundam franchise, and a direct sequel to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Directed and written by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the series aired from March 1, 1986, to January 31, 1987, on Nagoya Broadcasting Network. Set after the Gryps War, it follows the AEUG battleship Argama as it recruits a group of teenage junk collectors, led by Judau Ashta, to pilot Gundams against Neo Zeon. The series features a new cast of characters while continuing the world and some of the storylines from Zeta Gundam. It is known for its initial light-hearted comedic tone, which contrasts with the darker nature of its predecessor, though the series later transitions to a more serious plot. In the series, Judau pilots the ZZ Gundam, joining the Zeta Gundam, Gundam Mk-II, and Hyaku Shiki, forming the Gundam Team. Key characters from Zeta Gundam, such as Bright Noa and Haman Karn, also appear, though plans for Char Aznable's return were cancelled.
