Cosmo Warrior Zero

Cosmo Warrior Zero (コスモウォーリアー零, Kosumo Wōriā Zero) is a science fiction OVA anime series, also adapted from a PlayStation game of the same name produced by Taito. The anime premiered in 2001. The story is set after a long war between Earth and the machine men, which resulted in a peace that is more of a victory for the machine men. Warrius Zero, the protagonist, lost his family in the war but is still a member of the Earth fleet, now working with the machine men. His ship, made up of both humans and machine men, is given a near impossible task: capture the space pirate Captain Harlock. As Zero struggles to accomplish this task, evidence begins to surface that the peace between machine men and Earth may not be as it seems. The anime also references Leiji Matsumoto's other works and has been praised for its screenplay, with Matsumoto being noted for his ability to handle doomed heroism well.
