Set in 2032, the story follows cyborg Batou of Public Security Section 9 and his partner Togusa as they investigate a series of bizarre murders linked to malfunctioning gynoids (sex robots). Their investigation uncovers a conspiracy involving LOCUS SOLUS, a corporation illegally duplicating the consciousnesses of young girls into the gynoids. The film delves into themes of identity, artificial intelligence, and the nature of humanity, showcasing stunning visuals and complex philosophical discussions. Throughout the movie, Batou searches for the missing Motoko Kusanagi, who communicates with him through the network and assists him in resolving the case.
