"Rumbling Hearts" (君が望む永遠, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien) is a Japanese adult visual novel developed by Âge, released on August 3, 2001, for Windows, and later ported to Dreamcast and PlayStation 2. The game features a branching plot line where the player, as the protagonist Takayuki Narumi, interacts with eight main female characters, driving the narrative. In 2003, the game was adapted into a 14-episode anime television series produced by Studio Fantasia. Funimation licensed and distributed the anime in North America under the title "Rumbling Hearts". The story revolves around high school student Takayuki Narumi and his complex relationships with his friends, particularly his romance with the introverted Haruka Suzumiya. A sudden accident leaves Haruka in a coma, drastically changing Takayuki's life. During Haruka's three-year coma, Takayuki forms a relationship with Haruka's best friend, Mitsuki Hayase. The story further complicates when Haruka awakens from her coma. The anime explores themes of friendship, love, betrayal, and guilt, depicting the silent sufferings of ordinary people. It is known for its bittersweet endings and emotional depth. The franchise has spawned multiple OVAs and related works, including an OVA titled "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: Next Season," which offers an alternate ending focusing on Haruka.
