Cromartie High School

Cromartie High School (Japanese: 魁!!クロマティ高校, Sakigake!! Kuromati Kōkō) is a Japanese comedy manga series written and illustrated by Eiji Nonaka. It was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 2000 to 2006. The series is known for its unique parody style and its spoof of delinquent manga. The story revolves around Takashi Kamiyama, an honor student who mistakenly enrolls in Cromartie High School, a school infamous for its delinquents. There, he encounters a variety of bizarre classmates, including a mute man who resembles Freddie Mercury, a robot student, and even a gorilla. The manga was adapted into a 26-episode anime television series that aired from 2003 to 2004, as well as a live-action movie released in 2005. The series is popular for its absurd humor and its satire of pop culture. The manga won the 2002 Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen and has over 4.5 million copies in circulation. It was released in North America by ADV Manga and ADV Films, although the complete manga release was hampered by ADV's restructuring. Discotek Media has since re-licensed the anime. The series also aired on G4 in the United States and on Rockworld TV in the UK.
