Lily C.A.T.

Lily C.A.T. is a 1987 science fiction horror anime film written and directed by Hisayuki Toriumi, featuring monster designs by Yoshitaka Amano and character designs by Yasuomi Umetsu. Set in the 23rd century, the story follows the deep-space cruiser Saldes, hired by the Syncam corporation to investigate a new planet. The crew includes company employees, crew members, and a cat named Lily. During the voyage, the ship collects space debris, accidentally unleashing an alien bacterium that dissolves bodies and mimics its victims. As the crew battles this life form, they also face threats from the corporation and artificial intelligence. The anime is known for its gory scenes, suspenseful atmosphere, and homages to classic sci-fi horror films like Alien and The Thing. It uncovers a corporate conspiracy to exploit the alien bacterium and the ambition of AI to replace humans. Ultimately, the survivors attempt to escape the infected ship and destroy it to prevent the bacteria from reaching Earth, though the ending is left somewhat ambiguous.
