Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies (Japanese: ドラゴンボール 神龍の伝説) is a 1986 Japanese animated film and the first movie in the Dragon Ball franchise. The film is a modified adaptation of the initial story arc of the manga, focusing on Goku's first meeting with Bulma and their quest for the Dragon Balls alongside Oolong, Yamcha, Puar, and Master Roshi. In this version, King Gurumes replaces Emperor Pilaf as the main antagonist, seeking the Dragon Balls to remove a curse caused by the Blood Rubies. The story revolves around a girl named Pansy who seeks help to save her homeland from King Gurumes's destruction. Goku and Bulma meet her during their journey and join forces to confront the evil king. The movie introduces new characters such as King Gurumes, Pansy, and his two enforcers, Pasta and Bongo. It premiered on December 20, 1986, at the Toei Manga Matsuri festival alongside two other movies. It was later renamed Dragon Ball: The Legend of Shenron for home video release.
