Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a 2005 Japanese CGI animated film directed by Tetsuya Nomura and written by Kazushige Nojima. It serves as a sequel to the 1997 video game Final Fantasy VII, taking place two years after the game's events. The film follows Cloud Strife as he battles new antagonists, Kadaj and his group, who seek to resurrect Sephiroth and exploit a disease called 'Geostigma'. The movie is renowned for its high-quality CGI animation and intense action sequences, earning awards such as the 'Maria Award' at the 2005 Sitges Film Festival and 'Best Anime Feature' at the 2007 American Anime Awards. It was a commercial success, becoming one of the best-selling animated films in Japan and the United States during its release year. An extended version, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, added 26 minutes of new content, further enhancing the story, though understanding the plot still benefits from knowledge of the original Final Fantasy VII game.
