"Junkers Come Here" is an anime movie about a girl, Hiromi Nozawa, and her miniature Schnauzer named Junkers (pronounced "Yoon-kers"). Hiromi appears mature and resilient on the outside, but feels like she's falling apart inside. She rarely sees her parents, who are always busy with work. She then learns that her parents are considering a divorce, and she might have to make the difficult choice of deciding which parent to live with. On top of that, Hiromi's tutor, Keisuke (on whom Hiromi has a crush), is getting married, and Hiromi fears she will soon be completely alone. She finds comfort in Junkers, an unusual dog who can speak and grant her three wishes. The film is directed by Junichi Sato, known for "Sailor Moon," and was initially shown in small segments on Japanese TV before its theatrical release. It was based on a story by musician Naoto Kine, a member of TM Network, who also performed the film's theme song and acted as Hiromi's father, Shintaro. The late animator Kazuo Komatsubara also worked on character design and animation direction. The film won Best Animation Film at the 1995 Mainichi Film Awards. The movie was also adapted into a novel in 1994. The story revolves around family, loneliness, and growing up.
