SOL BIANCA

Sol Bianca is a two-volume Japanese Original Video Animation (OVA) series produced by AIC and released in 1990 and 1991. It was directed by Katsuhito Akiyama and Hiroki Hayashi. Sol Bianca follows the adventures of an all-female crew of space pirates aboard the starship “Sol Bianca,” which boasts technology superior to any other known vessel. After a stowaway appears on their ship, they learn about a legendary treasure called the Gnosis, said to be an artifact from old Earth. However, the Gnosis is in the possession of Emperor Batros, the tyrannical ruler of the planet Tres. The pirates must battle Batros's forces to claim the treasure. The series is known for its fluid animation of spacecraft, particularly the titular Sol Bianca, which was more detailed compared to other anime at the time. Sol Bianca was later remade into a six-episode OVA series titled Taiyō no Fune Sol Bianca (Ship of the Sun Sol Bianca) in 1999, and released in Western markets starting in 2000 as Sol Bianca: The Legacy. A video game was also released based on the series.
