GeGeGe no Kitarō (1985) is the third anime adaptation of Shigeru Mizuki's manga, GeGeGe no Kitarō, airing on Fuji TV from October 12, 1985, to March 21, 1988, with a total of 115 episodes. This series focuses on the themes of "yokai living in modern society" and "coexistence between humans and yokai." Unlike previous series, it emphasizes harmony between humans and yokai, with yokai often being portrayed as victims of human or Nezumi-Otoko manipulation. The series introduced new main characters, including the human girl Yumeko Tendō, and gave Kitaro a more heroic personality. It also introduced the "Yokai Ocarina" as his main weapon. Notably, the color pattern of Kitaro's chanchanko in this series is yellow-black-yellow-black-yellow, different from the black-yellow-black-yellow-black of the original manga and other anime versions. This series also established the classic setup of Kitaro's family and the nemesis Nurarihyon. The anime achieved a peak viewership rating of 29.6% and is one of the most popular entries in the franchise. Following episode 108, the series continued as "GeGeGe no Kitarō: Jigoku Hen (The Hell Arc)," which told the story of Kitaro's journey to hell.
