Megami Paradise (女神天国, Megami Tengoku) is a role-playing game released by NEC Home Electronics in 1994 for the PC Engine Super CD-Rom. In 1995, a two-part OVA anime series was produced by King Records' subsidiary Starchild Records and Studio Fantasia. Directed by Katsuhiko Nishijima, with character designs by Noriyasu Yamauchi, it continues the style of his later works such as Agent Aika and Najica, featuring numerous "upskirt shots." The anime is based on a manga by Akihiro Yoshizane serialized in Dengeki PC Engine magazine. The story is set in a utopian world inhabited only by women, ruled by a figure called "Mama Megami." Mama Megami possesses a magical item known as the "Astro Star," which absorbs evil from the outside world. When the Astro Star becomes saturated with evil, Mama Megami must perform a purification ceremony and pass her position to a successor. The story begins as the new Mama Megami chooses Lilith as her first shrine maiden and tasks her with finding two more to serve her. However, during Lilith's recruitment, they encounter a group that seeks to seize the Astro Star and take over paradise. In 1996, ADV Films released the anime on VHS in the US. Additionally, Megami Paradise has a sequel, a strategy simulation game called Megami Paradise II, released on the PC-FX in 1996.
