Samurai Champloo (サムライチャンプルー) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Manglobe and directed by Shinichirō Watanabe. The series aired on Fuji TV in Japan from May 2004 to March 2005, spanning 26 episodes. Set in a fictionalized version of the Edo period, it blends traditional samurai elements with contemporary hip-hop culture. The story follows the unlikely trio of Mugen, a reckless and unconventional swordsman; Jin, a stoic and composed ronin; and Fuu, a young waitress searching for the 'samurai who smells of sunflowers.' The three are thrown together by circumstance and embark on a journey across Japan. The anime is known for its unique style, dynamic action sequences, and its soundtrack which heavily incorporates hip-hop music composed by artists like Nujabes, Fat Jon, and Force of Nature. Samurai Champloo is not just an action anime but a unique fusion of culture, music, and eras.
