"Elfen Lied" (Japanese: エルフェンリート, Erufen Rīto) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto, which was later adapted into a television anime. The story revolves around the interactions between humans and a mutant species called "Diclonius", who are similar to humans but possess horns and transparent telekinetic arms called "vectors" capable of manipulating and cutting objects. The series centers on the teenage Diclonius girl Lucy, who is rejected by humans and subsequently seeks revenge. "Elfen Lied" explores themes of discrimination, social alienation, identity, prejudice, revenge, abuse, jealousy, regret, and the value of humanity, and is also known for its graphic violence and controversial content. The anime adaptation, while based on the manga, differs in plot, especially in its ending, due to its broadcast before the manga's completion. The story is primarily set in Kamakura, Japan, depicting Lucy's escape from a research facility and her conflicts with humans.
