Grrl Power!, known in Japan as Makasete Iruka! (まかせてイルか!), is an independently produced original video animation by Akitaro Daichi. The anime short film was released simultaneously in Japan and North America on June 10, 2004. The story revolves around three elementary school girls, Sora, Umi, and Ao, who run a handyman service called 'Iruka-ya' in Shonan. They take on various jobs, from delivering lunches to cleaning smokestacks, to achieve their dream of buying a deserted island and establishing their own country. Notably, one of the characters is hearing-impaired, leading to the abundant use of sign language in both the manga and anime adaptations. The three sisters, while not related by blood, live independently, self-sufficiently powered by solar and wind energy. Through their work, they learn and grow, encountering and interacting with many different people. The anime short film received an Excellence Award for animation at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival.
