"Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo" (often shortened to "Kochikame") is a Japanese manga series created by Osamu Akimoto, with its anime adaptation first airing in 1996. The anime is based on the manga and tells the comedic daily life of Kankichi Ryotsu, a policeman working at the Kameari Park Police Station in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, and his colleagues. The anime aired every Sunday on Fuji TV from June 16, 1996, to December 19, 2004, totaling 344 episodes (excluding specials). While the anime retained the manga's humor, it also toned down and altered elements like violence and suggestive content to suit a wider audience. It also introduced original characters and storylines, bringing more freshness to the viewers. Although the anime was often interrupted by special programs or baseball games, it remained highly popular among viewers with an average rating of 17%. In addition to the TV anime, the series also released two theatrical animated films and several specials. This work is beloved for its lighthearted and humorous style, as well as its portrayal of daily life details in Japan.
