もーれつア太郎 (1990)

"Furious Ataro (1990)" is the second anime adaptation of Fujio Akatsuka's manga, "Mōretsu Atarō", produced by Toei Animation. It aired on TV Asahi from April 21 to December 22, 1990, totaling 34 episodes. Directed by Junichi Sato, this new adaptation offered an updated take on the story and concepts. The first 21 episodes were full-length single stories, while the remaining episodes featured two stories each. The series revolves around Ataro, his ghostly father X-gorō, his friend Dekoppachi, the cat Nyarome, and other characters in a comedic and adventurous setting in downtown Tokyo. This adaptation updated the character designs and plot arrangements, introducing new characters like Momoko, who serves as Ataro's love interest. Due to copyright issues with "The Genius Bakabon" and "Osomatsu-kun", cameos from other Akatsuka works were removed or altered. A tie-in manga ran in Kodansha's Comic BomBom and TV Magazine. Overseas broadcasts include Cantonese (Hong Kong) and Korean (South Korea) versions, which were localized with new character names and themes.
