Ghost Talker's Daydream, known in Japan as Vulgar Ghost Daydream (低俗霊DAYDREAM), is a shōnen manga series written by Saki Okuse and illustrated by Sankichi Meguro, set in modern Japan. The manga was serialized in Shōnen Ace magazine and consists of 10 volumes. In 2004, it was adapted into a four-episode OVA anime series. The English version, released by Geneon, was titled 'Ghost Talker's Daydream', which is not a direct translation of the formal manga title. The protagonist, Misaki Saiki, is an albino woman who juggles multiple jobs: a dominatrix in a BDSM club, a columnist for a porno magazine, and a necromancer employed by the Livelihood Preservation Group, where she communicates with ghosts, sometimes allowing them to speak through her. Misaki often performs exorcisms and considers her necromancer job even more tawdry than her sex work. The manga often features subplots, typically one or two chapters long, which introduce new characters and develop the motivations of the main cast. Three primary characters are Saiki Misaki, Mitsuru, and Souichirou. The series incorporates fan service, nudity, and sexual themes, exploring Japanese suicide culture, sexual dysfunction, and physical abuse. The Japanese title translates to 'vulgar ghost', but there is a pun on the word 'rei' which can also mean 'companion,' thus implying 'vulgar companion'. The manga comprises 10 volumes, and the anime consists of 4 episodes.
