Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato: In the Name of Love

"Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato: In the Name of Love" (Japanese: さらば宇宙戦艦ヤマト 愛の戦士たち), also known as "Arrivederci Yamato," is a 1978 animated film and the second theatrical feature of the classic anime series "Space Battleship Yamato." The film depicts Earth's struggle against the White Comet Empire from the Andromeda Galaxy, three years after the war with the Gamilas Empire. The Space Battleship Yamato embarks on a new mission to defend Earth, facing a formidable enemy. The crew makes significant sacrifices throughout the story while battling with their own pain. Known for its tragic storyline and profound themes, this film is considered a classic of the space opera genre. Because of its poignant ending, "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato" was very controversial, and its narrative was later revised for the television anime "Space Battleship Yamato II", which aired the same year. For that reason, the plot of “Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato” is now considered an alternate, non-canonical story.
