"Lupin the 3rd: Swallowtail Tattoo" (Japanese: ルパン三世 盗まれたルパン ～コピーキャットは真夏の蝶～) is a 2004 television special anime in the "Lupin the 3rd" franchise. Produced by TMS Entertainment and directed by Hidehito Ueda, the story follows Lupin III and Fujiko Mine as they are kidnapped by the mysterious criminal Malkovich. He forces Lupin to steal the "Bull's Eye" gemstone, a jewel notorious for the deaths of its previous owners. Simultaneously, a teenage copycat thief named Becky appears, who models her techniques on Lupin's. Becky has a familiar swallowtail butterfly tattoo on her arm, leading Lupin to suspect a connection to his old partner, Cat. The special revolves around Lupin's forced theft and his relationship with Becky. It incorporates action, adventure, and comedy elements, along with classic elements from the Lupin III series. While some critics find the plot predictable, it remains an entertaining entry in the Lupin series, retaining the visual and musical characteristics of the franchise, with the ending theme "A Rose Tattoo" being particularly memorable.
