Uta Kata (うた∽かた), also known as "Poem Fragment," is a 2004 Japanese anime television series. The title, written differently (泡沫), can also refer to bubbles, which is used in the ending theme. The story begins on the eve of summer vacation, when Ichika Tachibana discovers her cell phone charm inside a mirror in the old school building. A girl named Manatsu Kuroki appears in the mirror and offers to return the charm if Ichika agrees to help her. As Manatsu emerges, Ichika finds the stones on her charm have changed color, granting her the power of 12 Djinn spirits. While it can be viewed as a magical girl series, Uta Kata explores mature themes like child abuse, eating disorders, and misanthropy. It follows Ichika's interactions with the Djinn as she comes of age. Through these encounters, Ichika learns about her own and others' willfulness, and faces seven trials that contrast seven virtues and sins. The story is emotionally charged, with Ichika constantly confronting her own inner struggles.
