ドラゴンズヘブン

Dragon's Heaven (ドラゴンズヘブン) is a post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk science fiction and mecha OVA released on February 25, 1988. It was produced by AIC and is based on the manga of the same name created by Makoto Kobayashi. The story is set in 2984 AD, where humanity, having migrated to space, is engaged in a fierce war with mechanical life forms that have proliferated on Earth. The human autonomous robot weapon Shaian (シャイアン) is defeated after destroying the mechanical life form's ultimate weapon, Irurunyu (イルルニュ), and losing its partner. A thousand years later, Shaian is awakened by Ikuuru (イクール), a girl who loves Tianjin sweet chestnuts, and learns that the world has entered a war between the fortress city of Keltria and the Empire of Brazil. Shaian and Ikuuru become mercenaries for Keltria and face their nemesis Elmedain (エルメダイン) once again. The anime's art style is heavily influenced by the works of the late French artist Moebius and has a distinctive visual style in mecha design. The manga also tells the story of Shaian and his partner Kitomatsumoto (キト松本), and includes a concluding chapter of Shaian's invasion of Brazil. In the anime, Makoto Kobayashi himself produced a life-size model of Shaian, which was used in the opening animation.
