Tokyo Pig, also known as Hare Tokidoki Buta in Japan, is an anime series adapted from the children's picture book series by Shiro Yadama. The story revolves around a young elementary school boy named Noriyasu Hatakeyama (Spencer in the English dub) who discovers that his diary has magical powers: whatever he writes about 'tomorrow' actually comes to life. In the first episode, he draws numerous flying pigs, and one of them stays with him as his pet, Sunny Pig. The series follows Noriyasu and Sunny Pig as they navigate their daily life and the whimsical adventures brought about by his diary. Produced by Group TAC, it aired on TV Tokyo from July 3, 1997, to September 29, 1998. The anime was dubbed into several languages, including English, Chinese, and Tagalog (where it was called 'Sunny Pig'). The English dub by Miramax Television made significant changes to the original, replacing the original music and sound effects, as well as cutting some episodes. Despite these changes, Tokyo Pig remains beloved for its comedic style and imaginative storytelling.
