"Shizukanaru Don – Yakuza Side Story," also known as "The Quiet Don," is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuo Nitta. It follows the unusual life of a yakuza boss who works at a lingerie manufacturer during the day. The manga began serialization in Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha's seinen magazine, Weekly Manga Sunday, on November 15, 1988, and concluded on January 8, 2013, spanning 108 volumes. It blends the seriousness of the yakuza genre with the author's signature nonsensical comedy, making it a unique manga. The series has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA), a television drama, films, and a drama CD, gaining widespread popularity in Japan. It has sold over 46 million copies and received the 42nd Japan Cartoonists Association Award. The story revolves around Shizuya Kondo, who leads a double life as an unremarkable lingerie designer by day and the third-generation boss of a yakuza organization by night, portraying his struggles in both worlds. In 2023, the manga was adapted into a live-action film project.
