"Superkid" (Japanese: パーマン, Hepburn: Pāman), also known as Perman, is a Japanese manga series created by Fujiko Fujio, about a clumsy boy, Mitsuo Suwa, who is chosen as an apprentice to a powerful superhero. The manga was originally serialized in "Weekly Shōnen Sunday" and other magazines from 1967 to 1968, and later in "CoroCoro Comic" from 1983 to 1986. The first anime series was produced in black and white in 1967 and was remade in color in 1983. The story follows Mitsuo as he encounters an alien named "Superman" (later renamed Birdman) who is part of a federation that tries to maintain peace in the galaxy. Mitsuo receives a helmet (that serves as a mask), a cape, and a badge, which grant him superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and the power to breathe underwater. It is said that if the identity of a Perman is revealed, their brain will be destroyed. To maintain the secrecy, a doppelganger robot that can replicate his appearance was also given. Known for its unique humor and exploration of the theme of "justice", it has two anime series and several films.
