Hell Girl

Hell Girl, also known as Jigoku Shōjo: Girl from Hell, is a Japanese anime series produced by Aniplex and Studio Deen. It centers on a supernatural system where people can exact revenge by sending others to Hell through the services of the mysterious Hell Girl and her assistants. Revenge, injustice, hatred, and the nature of human emotions are central themes throughout the series. The anime first aired in Japan from October 2005 to April 2006, followed by three sequels: Hell Girl: Two Mirrors (2006), Hell Girl: Three Vessels (2008), and Hell Girl: The Fourth Twilight (2017). The core of the story is Ai Enma, a 'Hell Girl' tasked with sending those the requesters harbor hatred for to Hell. Requesters can submit their grievances via the 'Hell Correspondence' website at midnight. If a request is accepted, Ai provides a straw doll with a red string; pulling the string sends the target to Hell, but at the cost of the requester also going to Hell after their death. The series explores the price of revenge, the darker aspects of human nature, and the complexities of cause and effect.
