Flint the Time Detective, known in Japan as Jikū Tantei Genshi-kun (時空探偵ゲンシクン), is a Japanese animated television series directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi. The anime is based on a manga by Hideki Sonoda and Akira Yamauchi, published by Kodansha. The anime aired in Japan from 1998 to 1999, running for 39 episodes. Enoki Films and Sanrio hold the license to Flint the Time Detective. The show centers on Flint Hammerhead, a boy from the prehistoric era, resurrected from a fossil to become a Time Detective. Although his detective skills are questionable, his friends Sarah and Tony Goodman assist him on his adventures. Flint battles with his father Rocky Hammerhead, whose partial resurrection left him as a sentient talking rock, fashioned into Flint's hammer. Flint's mission is to travel back in time and convince Time-Shifters to ally with him to protect the timeline. He typically battles against Petra Fina and her cronies Dino and Mite, who work for the Dark Lord. Time-Shifters are similar to Pokémon or Digimon, originating as small, cute creatures that can evolve into stronger forms before reverting. Saban Entertainment created the English adaptation, significantly differing from the original Japanese version, with changes to music and dialogue.
