"Sasuga no Sarutobi" (Clever Sarutobi) is a Japanese manga series created by Fujihiko Hosono, originally serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday Zōkan" from 1980 to 1984. The story is set in the private Shinobi no Mono High School, a special institution that appears to be a normal high school but is actually a ninja training facility. The protagonist, Nikumaru Sarutobi, is the grandson of the school's founder. Despite his short, chubby physique, enormous appetite, and lecherous nature, he possesses remarkable ninja skills. He has mutual feelings with Mako Kiriga, the beautiful kunoichi daughter of the school's principal and his childhood friend. When Mako is in danger, Nikumaru unleashes incredible power, using techniques like the "Kamikaze no Jutsu", which generates a mini-typhoon by rubbing his feet on the ground, and the "I no Fue no Jutsu", which uses ultrasound from stomach vibrations to fight. The series is known for its unique characters, slightly erotic comedic scenes, and romantic comedy elements. It was adapted into a 69-episode TV anime from 1982 to 1984. The anime adaptation differs from the manga in character designs and plot, introducing original characters and storylines, such as a rival spy school and an international criminal organization. Additionally, the anime includes numerous side stories unrelated to the main plot, such as parodies of popular movies and homages to other manga works. A sequel, "Sasuga no Sarutobi G," was released from 2017 to 2019, setting the story in modern times and focusing on Nikumaru and Mako battling on a global stage.
