Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, also known as Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror, is a Japanese anime horror anthology series produced by Toei Animation. The series is composed of three separate stories: "Yotsuya Ghost Story" which is an adaptation of a Kabuki play, "Goddess of the Dark Tower" based on a play by Kyōka Izumi, and "Goblin Cat", an original story. "Yotsuya Ghost Story" tells the tale of a wife betrayed by her husband who seeks revenge even in death; "Goddess of the Dark Tower" portrays a forbidden love between a goddess and a human; and "Goblin Cat" is centered around a mysterious cat monster seeking vengeance on a certain family. The anime is known for its distinctive art style and deep interpretation of traditional Japanese horror stories. Its spin-off, Mononoke, featuring the medicine seller from "Goblin Cat," has gained wide popularity. Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales was broadcast on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block in 2006.
