"The Legend of Snow White" (白雪姫の伝説, Shirayuki Hime no Densetsu) is an Italian-Japanese anime series produced by Tatsunoko Production, based on the European fairy tale. Directed by Tsuneo Ninomiya and with a screenplay by Jinzō Toriumi, it aired on NHK from April 6, 1994, to March 29, 1995, with 52 episodes, each approximately 30 minutes long. This anime is the second installment in Tatsunoko's World Masterpiece Anime series and was distributed by Mondo TV. The story begins with the birth of Snow White and follows her struggle against her evil stepmother. After the queen's death, the king marries Lady Crystal, an evil stepmother who is not only selfish and ambitious but also indulges in black magic. To eliminate Snow White, the stepmother uses poison and magic multiple times, but Snow White eventually survives with the help of seven dwarfs. The anime also introduces new characters, such as Jack, an orphan boy who wants to help Snow White, who is revealed to be the king of the forest and can talk with animals and trees. The series uses two theme songs: the opening theme, "Heart no mori e tsuretette" by Miki Sakai, and the ending theme, "Folk Dance" by Mebae Miyahara.
