"Jungle King Tar-chan" (ジャングルの王者ターちゃん, Janguru no Ōja Tā-chan) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masaya Tokuhiro, which was also adapted into an anime. Initially serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump as "Jungle King Tar-chan♡", it was later renamed "New Jungle King Tar-chan". The manga ran from 1988 to 1995, divided into two phases: the "Old Jungle King Tar-chan♡" and the "New Jungle King Tar-chan". The story began as a gag manga parodying "Tarzan", focusing on Tar-chan protecting animals and his friends on the African savanna. Later, the narrative shifted to a fighting manga, but it retained its comedic elements. Tar-chan, the main character, is a young man raised by a chimpanzee named Etekichi on the African savanna; he possesses superhuman abilities and the capacity to mimic animals. His wife, Jane, is a former model. The series includes exaggerated humor and often utilizes crude jokes. The anime adaptation, which aired on TV Tokyo from 1993 to 1994 with 50 episodes, toned down some of the more explicit content from the manga. The work has also been adapted into video games.
