"Tales from Earthsea", known in Japanese as "Gedo Senki", is a 2006 Japanese animated fantasy film directed by Gorō Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film is based on a combination of plots and characters from the first four novels of Ursula K. Le Guin's "Earthsea" series, with elements from Hayao Miyazaki's graphic novel "The Journey of Shuna". The story revolves around Prince Arren, who, amidst a world losing its balance and morality, encounters the Archmage Ged and a mysterious girl named Therru, joining forces to fight against the evil wizard Cob. While the film's visuals and music were praised, it received mixed reviews due to its significant deviations from the source material, pacing issues, and narrative problems. Le Guin herself expressed mixed feelings about the film. Nonetheless, it was a commercial success in Japan.
