Kiba (牙-KIBA-) is a Japanese anime series produced by Madhouse and Aniplex, which premiered on TV Tokyo on April 5, 2006. The series is directed by Hiroshi Kōjina, with Upper Deck Japan, a trading card game company, serving as the main sponsor. It is known for being more violent than other trading-card-game-tie-in animations, with many characters dying in the show. The story revolves around Zed, a 15-year-old boy living in a city called "Calm", who is frustrated with his current life. One day, he is invited by a mysterious wind and dives into a space-time crevasse, transporting him to a war-torn world. Here, magic users known as "Shard Casters" battle using marble-like "Shards" and control monsters called "Spirits." Zed aims to become a Shard Caster, unaware that he is host to the powerful Spirit, "Amil Gaoul," one of six "Key Spirits" that can influence the world's future. Zed undergoes countless trials, ultimately discovering who he is and what is most important to him. Kiba is a fantasy/sci-fi isekai adventure anime that explores themes of self-discovery, destiny, and the meaning of power.
