D.Gray-man is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Katsura Hoshino, set in a fictionalized late 19th century. The story follows Allen Walker, a young exorcist who joins the Black Order, an organization dedicated to combating the Millennium Earl and his demonic army of Akuma. Allen wields an ancient substance called “Innocence,” which allows him to destroy Akuma, machines created from the souls of the deceased. Along with other members of the Black Order, Allen travels the world, searching for scattered pieces of Innocence and battling the Millennium Earl and his Noah Family. The series is noted for its dark narrative, Gothic art style, and complex character relationships. The manga initially began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2004, with several hiatuses due to the author's health, eventually transitioning to Jump Square and other magazines. Besides manga, D.Gray-man has also been adapted into an anime series, novels, and video games. The series has been praised for its unique character designs and compelling storyline, achieving commercial success in Japan and North America.
