Romeo x Juliet

Romeo x Juliet (ロミオ×ジュリエット) is a Japanese anime television series produced by GONZO, which premiered in 2007. The anime is loosely based on William Shakespeare's classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, but is set in a fictional floating continent called Neo Verona. Fourteen years prior, the Montague family staged a coup and murdered the ruling Capulet family. Juliet is the sole survivor, hidden by loyalists. After 14 years, Juliet becomes a masked vigilante known as the Red Whirlwind, fighting against the Montagues. During an operation, she meets Romeo, the son of the Montague family, and they fall in love. However, their families' feud and the secrets behind Neo Verona make their love a difficult and dangerous journey. The anime retains the tragic core of the original work while incorporating fantasy and action elements, as well as integrating characters and elements from Shakespeare's other works for a new visual and auditory experience.
