"Higurashi When They Cry Kai" (ひぐらしのなく頃に解, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai), also known as "When They Cry: Solution," is the second main entry in the Higurashi When They Cry series. It's a Japanese dōjin soft visual novel series produced by 07th Expansion, and it has been adapted into anime. The series is set in the fictional village of Hinamizawa in 1983 and follows a group of young friends as strange events occur in their village. Unlike its predecessor, "Higurashi When They Cry," which focuses on raising questions, "Kai" is dedicated to answering those mysteries and is thus called the “Answer Arcs.” The series is typically classified as a horror, suspense, and psychological thriller, centered around characters trapped in inescapable loops and their attempts to uncover the truth behind the events. The anime adaptation was produced by Studio Deen and aired in 2007, covering the last four story arcs from the original visual novel as well as an anime-original arc. The series is praised for its complex narrative structure, unsettling atmosphere, and its exploration of themes such as friendship, trust, and despair. "Higurashi When They Cry Kai" is a critical part of the series because it provides key explanations of earlier events and drives the overall plot forward.
