"The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya" (涼宮ハルヒちゃんの憂鬱) is a Japanese manga series created by Puyo, first published on July 26, 2007. It's a parody of the original "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," placing the original characters in humorous situations using both four-panel and traditional comic formats. Serialized in magazines like Shōnen Ace and The Sneaker, the series concluded on December 26, 2018. It was adapted into an Original Net Animation (ONA) by Kyoto Animation in 2009. Known for its over-the-top comedy, the manga exaggerates the original characters, such as Yuki Nagato becoming an otaku, Ryoko Asakura being a pint-sized prisoner/plaything, and Mikuru Asahina being so cute that she turns into a sheep, providing plenty of gags and laughs. The manga was also released in 12 tankobon volumes, with the final volume issued on May 2nd, 2019, containing a short story titled "The Returning Favor of Haruhi Suzumiya" by Nagaru Tanigawa. "The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya" offers a unique and comedic take on the original series, while retaining its core elements.
